Welcome
Kiribati - Welcome to the gateway of the one of the last frontiers in the tropical pacific. The reefs are pristine, the lineups empty, the schools of fish bountiful. We offer a truly unique escape for the ocean sports enthusiast. Whether you are a surfer, diver, angler, or someone looking for adventure in pure isolation, the Line Islands of Kiribati are waiting.
Christmas Island, or Kiritimati, lies 1200 miles south of Honolulu, Hawaii. As the world's largest atoll, Christmas Island has an abundance of marine life in and around its lagoon and wind groomed reefs. More than 20 surf spots are accessible from land and boat, with numerous reefs yet to be explored. Christmas Island catches the same swell direction as North Shore Oahu, only about half the size and several days later.
Fanning Island, also known as Tabuaeran, lies several hundred miles north of Kiritimati, and is only accessible by an 18-hour sail. Home to several waves, including a world-class left, Fanning offers one of the most remote locations in the world. Surf is fun year round, but is best during the summer months when the South Pac is active.
Your guide Chuck Corbett is the original "Atoll Man". Living in Kiribati since the late 70's, Chuck has local knowledge of the waves and the rich island history.
Surf Trips for a Good Cause - Despite its Utopian appeal, the Line Islands are in grave danger. The Nation of Kiribati is one of the poorest nations on the planet without access to most western commodities, such as clean water or medicine. There are currently no methods of transporting regular, urgent medical care and supplies to these remote locations.
Our vision (shared with the people of Kiribati) is to limit the social impact of foreigners and boost the local economy through their only remaining resource - surfing and fishing charters which are 100% local owned and regulated by the people and their government. In an effort to prevent the corporate holdings and land rushes that have taken over places like Indonesia with little regard for the local people and culture, the Kiribati government is stricly enforcing rules on those who come to the Line Islands.
Surfing tourism is limited to 11 surfers in the water, and the Government requires Kiribati surfing licenses for all of them. We are working on behalf of the Island Council, to establish the Kiribati Surf Camps, owned and operated by the people of Christmas and Fanning Island. Please take the time and click the links at the left to Learn More about the local culture and history, and to find out how You Can Help.
